Economic study touts Alaska-Canada rail link
June 21, 2007- An article by Reuters Canada discusses the results of a preliminary feasibility study for an Alaska Canada rail link funded by the Yukon and Alaska governments. Information Insights provided the analysis of the socioeconomic impacts of the proposed rail link on the Alaska side of the border. 2007 Summer Intern
JUNE 4, 2007 -
Dewey Hoffman has joined the Information Insights staff as an intern for the summer of 2007. Dewey was born into the Koyukon Athabascan communities of Ruby and Galena and was raised in Juneau, Nome, Barrow, and Anchorage. His family and passion for language inspire him to explore the world while learning how to create a stronger Alaska Native community. As a Senior at Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H. his academic interests are in International Development, Native American Studies and Portugeuse. His professional interests include public policy research, youth leadership development, event coordination, and partnering among different groups to create positive change in Alaska.

Study Shows Higher than Estimated Borough Population

What is Poverty? A whitepaper by Information Insights' summer interns makes an impression
OCTOBER 15, 2006 - Information Insights interns, Jess Holden and Elizabeth Fison, wrote a whitepaper for the First Alaskans Institute over the summer on the many ways poverty is defined. A column in the Alaska Journal of Commerce cites their work as it reflects on what it means to be poor. Congratulations to Jess and Elizabeth!
Three New Interns for Summer of 2006
JUNE 30, 2006 - Information Insights Inc. has three interns for the summer of 2006, Jessica Holden and Charles Ermer at the Fairbanks office and Elizabeth Fison at the Anchorage office.
Jessica Holden is interning for her third summer. She continues to work on a wide variety of projects, assisting with research, surveys, marketing projects, facilitation, event planning, and writing and editing. Jessica completed a brief internship last fall at a Dialogue Center in Lillehammer, Norway, which works which works with groups from the Balkans. She recently finished her junior year at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA. She will be graduating next May with a major in Communication with emphasis in Conflict Management.
Charles Ermer is a graduate student in Economics at UAF. He is assisting on projects analyzing the economic impact of the proposed Alaska natural gas pipeline and the Alaska-Canada rail link.
Elizabeth Fison recently completed her junior year at Brown University in Providence, RI, where she is working toward her bachelor's degree with a concentration in political science. She will graduate in May. She has worked every summer since she was 15 in a variety of fields to help finance her education, but this is her first year with Information Insights. She is working on a poverty literature review for the First Alaskans Institute, and she is interested in public policy issues.

a survey of Mat-Su Valley residents to determine health needs and priorities
in the borough. The survey was conducted for
the Mat-Su Rural Health Care Network. The
survey included dozens of key informant interviews, telephone surveys of
400 Mat-Su residents, and visits to local
council meetings and gatherings in nearly every community in the borough. Read

Natural Gas Pipeline Municipal Impact Report Accepted
NOVEMBER 8, 2004 - The final Municipal Impact Analysis
of the gas pipeline Producers' Application was accepted by representatives
of the Municipal Advisory Group and
sent to Governor Murkowski today. The study was completed by Information
Insights, Inc. for the Municipal Advisory Group, which was formed by the
Alaska Deparment of Revenue under the provisions of the Stranded Gas Development
Act (AS 43.82). The advisory group includes representatives of Tanana Chiefs
Conference and nine municipal governments which are expected to be financially
impacted by development of a natural gas pipeline under the provisions of

JULY 1, 2003 - An article on childcare options by Robin Barker of Information Insights appeared in the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner's Practical Parenting column. The article announces the new Childcare Finder search tool developed by Information Insights to help parents find quality care in the community. Barker is project manager of the Hearts for Kids pilot project, funded by a $400,000 federal grant and sponsored by the Borough's Early Childhood Developoment Commission.
