Behavioral Health Community Planning

In 2004, the Alaska Mental Health Board contracted with Information Insights to conduct a statewide planning and implementation project which included providing technical assistance to communities interested in doing community-wide planning for the coordination of behavioral health services. Information Insights provided assistance to 17 communities, involving consumers, behavioral health providers, representatives of the Office of Children’s Services (OCS), Corrections, primary care, and other key community stakeholders. Project updates and findings were presented to the statewide behavioral health provider organization and the COSIG project steering committee (twice for each group). Oral presentation of project results was not accompanied by an electronic presentation.

Personal Care Attendant (PCA) Redesign Project

From 1999 to 2002, Information Insights worked with the Division of Senior Services to redesign the regulations for Medicaid funded personal care services. Alaska Psychiatric Institute Workforce Study

The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services contracted with Information Insights in 2002 to undertake a comprehensive review of the issues related to the acute shortage in skilled healthcare staff experienced by the Alaska Psychiatric Institute (API). In the course of the study Information Insights interviewed current and former API staff, analyzed API salaries in relation to market salaries, and surveyed national sources of psychiatric workforce information to develop a labor market-based comparison of salaries and benefits for 26 job classes identified as difficult to recruit by API managers. Information Insights learned why employees are attracted to API and continue to work there as well as why employees leave API.

Cardiovascular Health Evaluation

In 2005, DHSS contracted with Information Insights to conduct a program review of the Cardiovascular Health Project. Alaska Mentoring Demonstration Project

Information Insights conducted a multi-year evaluation (2002 – 2006) of statewide mentoring expansion efforts conducted by a partnership of Big Brothers Big Sisters, Alaska Community Services (National Senior Services Corps), and Boys and Girls Clubs in Alaska. Using qualitative measures determined by the agency partners as well as quantitative data analysis measuring impact on students in five specified areas, the evaluation included community visits, key informant interviews and facilitated discussions with project partners to determine Alaska-based evaluation tools and strategies. Quantitative data analysis included a survey tool used nationally by Big Brothers Big Sisters programs. Evaluation findings for the first four years of this project were presented at a statewide conference.

NSB Organizational Study

This 2004 project assisted the borough in a comprehensive study of borough service delivery. Information Insights presented study results in every community of the North Slope Borough, accompanied by Borough Mayor George Ahmaogak.
